| Item Description: | Relief show pictorially. The Flemish engraver and cartographer Jodocus Hondius, bought Mercator's plates after his death, and published a reduced version of Mercator's folio "Atlas sive Cosmographicae", and added some 36 of his own maps to produce a pocketversion called "Atlas minor" which Hondius first published in Latin, in 1607 together with his partners Cornelius Claesz and Johannes Janssonius. It was translated into several languages and issued in over 40 editions Copper engraving. North orientated to the right. Bar scale in "Milliaria Germanica Comm.". The Cushing Library copy is part of the Ronald L. and V. Jane Woellhof Rare Map Collection. |
