Robin Bledsoe, bookseller, description: Vol. 1, which covers all aspects of breeding and stud farm management, includes the foreword, list of subscribers, and a long bibliography. (The text gives sample breeding records, which are dated 1776, so this is an up-to-date book!), Vol. 2, which focuses on riding and driving, includes a long index and a list of printer’s errors. In German black letter. The LOC record copy calls for an inserted dedication page, which isn’t here. Page 467 is misfoliated 466. The volume 2 half-title is present. There are numerous copies in Germany; the only U.S. holdings are LOC and University of Pennsylvania. The only non-German European holdings are the British Library and the national libraries of Spain and Denmark. Old leather spine (dry). Later sturdy cloth. Generally very good except: opening pages foxed, title page wrinkled, first ca. 15 pages stained in bottom margin. Scattered light staining and foxing throughout. The fore-edges of the last ca. 12 plates are chewed. These plates are also somewhat dampstained within their images. There are holes torn out of last plate (a breaking wagon), though they don’t affect the image. New rear endpaper. |
