| Item Description: | Half title page. Antonello Privitera (Bibliopathos) description: 8vo, contemporary stiff vellum with handwritten title at spine, pp. [8], 308. Signature: π⁴ A-M¹² N¹⁰. Only edition of this Genovese handbook on the care of domestic animals of every type: horses, sheep, pigs, chickens, falcons (!) and small birds. The work was referenced even as late as 1880 (cf. S. Rivolta, L’ornitojatria; o, La medicina degli uccelli domestici e semidomestici, p. 12). Felice Repetto was a prolific printer/publisher, and is not known to have been a veterinarian. The present work may be an Italian compilation of writings by Pierre (Pietro) Flandrin (1751-1798), a modest, hard-working veterinary scientist who "in his research carried a spirit of scientific order and accuracy that had never been seen in Veterinary schools." (see: La Clinica veterinaria, Vol. 10, 1887, p. 105; see also: Annuario della Universita degli studi di Camerino, 1887, p. LIII). Born in Lyon, at the age of just 23 years old he became Director of the Lyon Veterinary School. He retired from teaching in 1793, and at that time issued a collection of his unpublished writings.
