Neat handwriting. Two full-page illustrations representing the anatomy of the horse. Extensive scientific treatise on the anatomy and pathology of the horse, and on appropriate techniques for the care of horses. There is a very useful index with over 80 references to various maladies: Della tosse del cavallo, del bolso, della vena rota, ochio con cattaratta, del orinar sangue, delle ferite, enfiazione della mascella, rottura della lingua, delle serpentine, della dilogazione, della rogna o scabia, del cancro, della sciatica, per fortificare le gambe dei puledri, del piede enfiato, anatomia dei membri e delle ossa and many others. CONTENT: [ff. 1r-107r]: Chapters I-CXX on horse pathology and corresponding cares; [ff. 107v]: full-page illustration of the internal organs of the horse; [ff. 107r-111r]: Anotomia dei membri e viscere de’ Cavalli («Anatomy of the limbs and viscera»); [f. 111v]: Figura dell’Anotomia dell’Ossa del Cavallo (illustration of the skeleton of the horse); [f. 112r-117v]: The bones of the horse; [118r-121v]: blank leaves; [ff. 122r-125r]: Index; [ff. 125v-126r]: blank leaves. ILLUSTRATIONS: 1. On fol. 107v is the Anatomia dei Membri [of the horse]. 2. On leaf 111v is the Anatomia delle ossa del cavallo (Anatomy of the bones of the horse). SOURCES: The anonymous compiler has drawn from several sources. In the first part, devoted to pathology, descends from the renowned treatise on the horse by Marino Garzoni (1692). The second part, devoted to anatomy, descends from Cavallo Frenato by Antonio Pirro (1602), specifically the portion written by Giovan Battista Pirro, the author’s father. The illustrations are very similar to those of Pirro’s second edition of the same work (1620).
