| Item Description: | Anonymous; written (in English) by Delariviere Manley. Fictionalized account of contemporary gossip, scandalizing persons of note, expecially Whigs. A second volume was issued; the two were published later with "Memoirs of Europe towards the close of the eighth century" as the New Atalantis. One of several states. In this state signature C is under the apostrophe in "harden'd"; 3rd line from bottom of page 1 reads: "Globe!" ; 1st line on page 33 ends "Law"; page 246 is numbered correctly. The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy was acquired as part of the Lois Goddard Morrison Collection of Eighteenth Century Literature. The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy generally matches ESTC N47963 except that it lacks the "Key to Atalantis." |
