Description
Summary:The collection brings together new approaches to research in the use of computer-mediated learning technologies in civil engineering education.
Sponsored by the Education Committee of the Computing Division of ASCE. Transforming Engineering Education: Innovative Computer-Mediated Learning Technologies brings together 10 contributions on new approaches to research in the use of computer-mediated learning technologies in civil engineering education. The contributions present technology approaches that have made far-reaching improvements in learning outcomes and their alignment in the curriculum. This book is divided into three areas: fundamental computing approaches in design and construction, virtual and augmented reality, and advances in BIM applications. Specific topics include spatial and temporal cognitive ability, construction-centric BIM education, strategic BIM coordination in model-based decision making, georeferenced augmented reality, mixed media mixed reality in the collaborative environment, CyberGRID as a virtual workspace, and a case study in virtual collaboration in an urban design project. Researchers and educators in all areas of engineering education will find innovative and useful suggestions in this collection.
