In September of 1988, Peter Thomas and Gillian Spires visited Wookey Hole and afterwards met with Cyril Finn, a vat man recently retired from that same mill. At the end of their interview Cyril said, 'If you want to meet a really old papermaker you should go to Wells and meet the man who trained me.' So they set up a meeting the next week with Harry Glanville who was then ninety-two years old, born on the thirteenth of August 1896 in Hurst-Batch, Somerset.
