The third French edition. Originally printed by Aldus Manutius at Venice in 1499; the woodcuts are from the first French edition of 1546.
The author's name is revealed in an acrostic formed by taking the large initials of each of the 38 chapters: Poliam frater Franciscvs Colvmna peramavit.
Edited by Jean Martin with address to the reader by Jacques Gohory. The translation is attributed to Cardinal de Lenoncourt. The illustrations are usually attributed to Jean Goujon and Jean Cousin; title page design has been attributed to Luca Penni (see D. Cordellier. Luca Penni (Paris, 2012), pages 111-113).
