| Summary: | The archaeological site of Mont Lassois, near Vix in Burgundy, is about 6 km north of Châtillon-sur-Seine. The settlement on the mountain and at the foot is an example of a so-called princely seat of the Hallstatt period. In the faunal material from the Les Renards area, at the eastern foot of the central town, there was early evidence of the import of Italian cattle and the keeping of domestic chickens. The archaeozoological investigation of the faunal material from the settlement and workshop area on the hillside of the Hallstatt central town of Mont Lassois showed that the population's meat supply was mainly covered by the consumption of pigs. Cattle were used to a lesser extent as sources of meat. Sheep and goat husbandry in the settlement area and hunting wild animals such as red deer or wild boar enriched the diet. |
