Denver’s history is explored through the crimes of each era, which often reflect the attitudes and politics of the day. The first chapter begins in 1869 with Vincent Markham, the first district attorney, who served before Colorado achieved statehood. The book concludes in 2021 with Beth McCann, Denver’s first female district attorney. he district attorney has always been an elected official. The district attorneys were never career prosecutors in the early years. Of the 29 district attorneys covered in this book, 20 served one term and 9 served two or more.
