Abstract:This guidebook seeks to provide guidance on the sequencing and placement of noise walls and retaining walls on TxDOT projects. This includes recommendations for noise wall and retaining wall selection, preferred methods and best practices for sequencing and placement, and design and construction procedures to help reduce issues during construction and maintenance. The guidebook was developed based on information collected from stakeholder interviews, data analysis, and case studies regarding sequencing and placement of noise walls and retaining walls. It focuses on a how-to approach and includes guidelines and best practices for the sequencing and placement of noise walls and retaining walls. The guidebook includes information for a variety of users and stakeholders and can be grouped into six general areas: design, environmental, utility coordination, right of way, construction, and maintenance.
