Volume II is also identical except the printing error "Vol. I." on the title page has been corrected in the 2nd printing; this leaf also as a different watermark, '1' and '8' side by side, with 'II'. However large paper versions of the book were also available (see Edinburgh copy) which shows that the watermarks in Vol. II are in fact 'SMITH' '1801'. In the same Edinburgh copy of the large paper version of Vol. II, the outline plates are in sepia with no watermarks and are all dated 1802, and are numbered and indicate they are from Vol. II in the top left hand corner. The last page of the text in this copy also has a different watermark, 'O' 'O' side by side The un-numbered leaf in volume 1, "Directions to Binder", is not present in my copy but included in the collation above; my copy of volume 2 is also missing the half-title Dedication signed: "Edward Coleman. Veterinary College, May 1, 1798." Printer's imprint: Vol. I: "T. Gillet, Crown Court, Fleet Street." on half-title; Vol. II: "T. Gillet, Salisbury Square" at bottom of title page. |
