Item Description:Instruments are contained in a wooden box that has three compartments, two of which have compartment divider lids that have little clasps that hold them shut. Two of the compartments have specific places to put certain instruments and one is just one large compartment with a smaller compartment on one side.
In compartment 1 (farthest left) is a bone saw, two sets of pliers (various sizes), four sets of forceps (various sizes), a ridged spatula, a trocar, one bone gouge, a skull saw, and a trephine.
Compartment 2 (middle) contains two surgical retractors, three types of forceps, two large surgical knives, one large double ended surgical knife, one small scalpel, two fistula knives, one fistula probe, one small pointed hook probe, one small double-toothed knife, packet of kneedles, and one package of surgical thread.
Compartment 3 (farthest right) contains a roll of gauze, a pair of small forceps, a leather wallet (filled with a catheter, a pair of surgical scissors, 5 scalpels and a pointed hook probe), canvas straps, a metal strap holder, another leather wallet (one pair of forceps, two metal rods most likely used for cleaning, nine thumb lancets, a bone scoop, a catheter, and two grooved fistula directors with a probe end).
Dr. J.D. Everett was a physician in Texas in the 1880s-1900s. His family donated this collection to the Medical Sciences Library, Texas A&M University in October 2015.
