The date of publication comes from a contemporary review of the treatise in "The Edinburgh Medical and Surgical Journal", vol 4 (1808). The RASE copy was bound up in 1807 (as stated on the cover) so confirming publication date was certainly at, or before, that date. The Dictionary of National Biography incorrectly states it was published in 1809. This present work must have been influential at the time as "Dr. Duncan" is mentioned in many subsequent sheep books over the following 10-20 years. |
