| Item Description: | The Ontario Veterinary Correspondence School was one of many informal 'veterinary schools' that operated in North America during the 19th and early 20th centuries. This school, like some others, was what is known in the late 20th century as a diploma mill; students paid a fee, received a book to read, and received a diploma. As the veterinary profession organized in the late 19th century, formulated educational and practice standards, and lobbied for government licensing, schools such as this were eventually shut down. Vignette on cover shows a 4-story building with Romanesque arches in stone on the first floor and "Ontario Veterinary Correspondence School" lettered around 2 sides at the top of the building. |
