Plate impression 31 x 23.5 cm. 11 plates have "Archives de médecine comparée" either printed or written in the upper left. 6 plates have "Gravé par Oudet" printed in the lower left; 1 is written in lower right. 5 plates have "N. Rémond, imp." printed in lower right; 1 is written in lower left. All plates have enumeration printed or written in upper right; there are 4 states of Pl. V and 2 states of Pl. VII. 7 plates have handwritten notes or numbers; note at foot of 1st state of Pl. VII is signed "Rayer". Jonathan Hill, bookseller, description: Rayer founded the magazine "Archives of Comparative Medicine" in 1842. Only the first volume dated 1843 was published with 9 plates. We have here proofs corrected by Rayer plates for the following deliveries, which have never been published. It is a set of 14 lithographic plates, some in duplicate (numbered 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 2 unnumbered), most refer to veterinary medicine. They show skulls, skeletons and anatomical details of birds, a cat's head, mites, etc. Corrections and legends in pencil of Rayer's hand, coloring test, instructions for the engraver ... Note Signed in pencil at the bottom of a board: "This board will be retouched with several dots of colored paper." |
