Description
Summary:Niall Kenny description: The rare first UK edition. The only copy on COPAC (copy in Goldsmith's Library) seems to have an incorrect collation as missing a preliminary page and a plate, unfortunately this is the copy available in microform to all libraries. The RVC copy collates identically to my copy. Typographical error: p 36 given as '37'. The BL claims to have a 2nd London edition, which is also dated 1811. There are two plates of sheep ('Rambouillet' & 'Clermont') owned by Livingston and drawn by his wife, and a further one on the distribution of the differing qualities of wool over the body of the Merino. This latter plate is discussed in the text at p 212. These plates first appeared in the 2nd, 1810, edition of the original American publication. Printer's imprint: "T.C. Hansard Printer, Peterborough-court, Fleet-street, London." The English edition preface is written by Cobbett and is signed "Wm Cobbett. State Prison, Newgate, Wednesday, 3rd April. 1811."
Physical Description:32 unnumbered pages, 247 pages, 1 unnumbered page, 3 unnumbered leaves of plates : frontispiece, illustrations ; 22 cm.
