| Summary: | Niall Kenny description: Scarce title; copy examined in half-sheep with marbled boards; the plates comprise two separate plates of sheep (varieties of Merino: i.e. Rambouillet and Clermont), and a plan of a sheep-fold. This latter plan is included in the pagination, being pages 39-40, hence it is not listed as a true plate. The text of the copyright statement dates copyright to be 20th May of 35th year of independence (i.e. 1811). Oddly, none of the on-line copies mention the sheep plates so not certain if present in all copies. The plates in this copy come from Robert Livingston's "An essay on sheep..." of 1809, and interestingly the 2nd edition of 1810 is published by Collins, as is this book. I suspect the two sheep plates are not intrinsic to the book as other copies seem to lack them. |
