| Summary: | Niall Kenny description: Manuscript dates of 1783 and 1784 in a copy previously held by me. All editions now very rare, often only surviving in single copies; the dating of Dixwell's publications is very hard. D 533 has a manuscript date of 1781 and here we have 1783/4; a copy of the 3rd edition in the New York Public Library has been dated from internal evidence to 1774-1779, however suspect cannot be before 1779 as the 3rd edition of “The Cattle-Keeper's Assistant ..." is mentioned as just published in the 2nd edition of “The Farmer ...”, and that book likely dates to 1780 (see below). Interesting the 9th edition states on the title page that the book “The farmer ...” has been published but no mention of it is made here. RCVS has a 3rd edition; RVC has a 1st and 12th edition. |
