| Summary: | Niall Kenny description: Pagination error: p 156 marked as '157'. Later editions under this title in 1837 and 1851 (marked as 4th edition, copy in RCVS). Also interestingly there was a USA printing in 1849 (Utica: E. E. Roberts, copies in Yale and Utica College), reflecting a pocket of Welsh speakers in New York State in the 19th century. Confusingly the true second edition was published in 1837 under a different title, "Y meddyg anifeiliai ..." (see below) The preface to this edition is almost identical to the "preface to the first edition" in the 1837 work "Y meddyg anifeiliai ...". I suspect the two works are the same, with this being the 1816 first edition of "Y meddyg anifeiliaid ...", as much of the text seems identical, even though the above title seems to have gone through two further editions at the same time as the later work. Seems to be very scarce. Just to confuse things even more there was another distinct and different Welsh title called the "Y meddyg anifeiliaid ..." in print at the same time, being published in 1814 and 1850 (see Veterinary History Vol. 2, p 13-23 for a discussion of early Welsh veterinary texts). EDWARDS, JOHN (1755 - 1823), Calvinistic Methodist exhorter ; b. 8 Sept. 1755 at Ereiniog, Penmorfa, Caerns, a farm on which his ancestors had lived for many generations. When young, he was something of a poet and interludist, but about 1774-5 his thoughts were turned to religion, and in 1787 he began preaching. He m. (c. 1790) Elizabeth Jones of Hafod Ifan ( Ysbyty Ifan, Denbs.). In 1795 he had to leave his farm, as the landowner would not allow him to preach; he moved first to Gelli-gynan (Llanarmon-yn-Iâl), then in 1811 to Plas Coch in Llanychan, Denbs., and finally (1817) to Caerwys Hall, Flints.; in all these districts he founded Methodist causes. He was a skilled farmer, and took great interest in veterinary medicine, publishing at Denbigh in 1816 Y Cyfarwyddyd Profedig i bob Perchen Anifeiliaid. He d. 19 Nov. 1823.
