Description
Summary:Niall Kenny description: This abbreviated version of Gibson's “A New Treatise” is much more scarce than the original editions. In most copies the plates are extra copies of plates XXII-XXXI from volume II of the 2nd edition of “A new treatise on the diseases of horses...”, which was published in 1754. However in two fully contemporary copies examined the plates had clearly come from the first edition of 1751 (and were clearly printed from the same copper plates as they contain identical minor marks from the plates of the 1st edition). However the image from these older plates is very worn and it seems likely that Millar used his newer plates in the later printings. Thus there appears to have been two issues of this book. Dublin editions in 1756 and 1757.
