| Item Description: | The title is taken from the caption title, which is preceded by "Price to gentlemen sixpence.) (To cottagers and for distribution twopence." The word "From" in the title is followed by a wood-engraving of a bee, surrounded with typographical captions giving the "Length of Queen.", the "Length of worker." and stating "Long live the Queen.". Published in the year of Victoria's coronation and intended in part as a tribute to that Queen, as also to the queen bee. Anonymous. Later editions are explicitly credited to W.C. Cotton. "Questions ... will be fully answered, if ... sent direct to the editor of the Oxford Herald, Queen Street, Oxford ... A supply of this tract for distribution, and hives or models of them, may be procured, by permission of Mr. Duncan, at the Ashmolean Museum ..." - foot of page 24. At this date, the "Oxford city and University herald" was printed by J. Munday at the "Herald Office". |
