Description
Summary:Aida is a love story between the Egyptian leader Radames and the beautiful Egyptian girl Aida. Aida who was captured and now a slave to Amneris, the Pharaohs daughter, is also in love with Radames. When the Ethiopian enemies headed by King Amonasro, Aida's father, invade Egypt, Aida is left in a dilemma - whom should she support; her father or her beloved Radames.
Stage director Graham Vick and set designer Paul Brown conjure up an "open-air spectacle of superlatives" (Die Zeit) that links ancient Egypt with modern-day America. The stage effects are stunning: ruins of the Statue of Liberty pieced together with the help of giant cranes, boats bearing priestesses and prisoners -- parts of the opera even taking place in the lake itself.
