| Item Description: | Signed by the calligrapher, a clerk in the Ordnance Office, on the decorative ink and wash architectonic (with royal coat of arms) title page, and on page 93 (added title page for the additions and amendments) "Anth.y Forman fecit", and "Anthony Forman scripsit" on added title page for Charles II warrant. All "signatures" of the Secretaries of State for the Southern Department are in the same scribal hand: 1683 warrant / L. Jenkins -- Additions and amendments under King James II / Sunderland -- William III / Shrewsbury -- Anne / Nottingham and Hedges -- George I / James Stanhope -- George II / Holles Newcastle. Page 124 onwards: Instructions for the proper duties to the Lieutenant General from George II to Sir John Ligonier "Lieutenant General of our Ordnance" dated October 1751. Ligonier was Lieutenant General from March 1748 onward, serving as Master General from 1759 to 1763. Contains his armorial bookplate. |
