One of the Cushing Library/Lit./Mitchell copies contains an autograph letter signed, on printed letterhead of 9 Gordon Street, Gordon Square, W.C., 8 April 1916 from the author to Alida [or Harold?] Monro, beginning: "Many thanks for proofs which I return practically corrected - but I shall be grateful if you or your Secretary will kindly -- in verse 7 of Nunhead make the usual marks for putting gulls [?] back into ordinary type ..." ; bookplates of Frederick B. Adams, Jr. and of Frank J. Hogan; in a half-morocco slipcase by Scroll Club Bindery, N.Y. One of the Cushing Library/Lit./Mitchell copies is stamped "Presentation copy" on title-page, original photoprint of the author mounted to the front paste-down endpaper; contains a page detached from 1955 catalog of bookseller, Norbert Halliwell, Pawling, New York, listing copies of The Farmer's Bride; contains a typed letter signed (one leaf, 9 February 1955) from Halliwell to Frederick B. Adams, Jr., concerning his order from the catalog; Adams' bookplate; rebound in dark green morocco-backed cloth by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, London. |
