Description
Summary:The "Sirens" of Swiss artist Urs Fischer (born 1973) are female and male Hollywood film actors, whose stills and publicity shots the artist intercuts and collages with their own double images, other faces, or flowing natural shapes in large silkscreen paintings. Stressing the rich vocabulary of forms and colors, the artist labels them landscape paintings, and juxtaposes these works with a set of sculptures, small figures interacting with elements such as potatoes or a spoon in the second gallery of the twin exhibitions documented here. Grouped around a mirror pond framed by potted plants, these witty inventions in gesso react to another form of siren call. Work images and installation shots from both venues of Galerie Max Hetzler in Berlin are accompanied by an essay from Gregor Jansen, who discusses the issues of physical reality, perception, and film-theoretical projection reflected in these works.00Exhibition: Galerie Max Hetzler, London, UK (01.03. - 12.04.2019).
