Item Description:An instructional military handkerchief, also known as a fighting handkerchief, illustrating the Springfield rolling block rifle Model 1871, as well as its use in numerous infantry tactical situations. This was a serious training manual that was issued to Spanish soldiers at the time serving in various theatres, including the Philippines and Puerto Rico. Explains the construction, operation and maintenance of the breach-loading rifle, and by means of 20 captioned vignettes, illustrates and explains a variety of small unit, combat tactics. The set is surrounded by a red band and in the corners, the castle and the lion as a symbol of Spain, The rifle was manufactured by the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts under a royalty agreement with the Remington Arms Company in New York, which originated its design.
