| Summary: | Album of mounted photographs taken by American commercial photographers, Charles B. Waite, Ralph J. Carmichael, Percy S. Cox, working in Mexico at the turn of the twentieth century, and by Abel Briquet, originally from Paris, France. The places depicted in this collection, such as Veracruz, and Mexico City and environs, were becoming important centers for commerce and tourism during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Much of their work was designed to promote Mexico as a tourist destination and good place for investment by showing the progress of modernization and urbanization. Views of the life in the countryside and depictions of "tipos" or types also included. |
