Description
Item Description:Created for the 2020 Open Set design binding competition/exhibition, sponsored by the American Academy of Bookbinding. Originally presented as an unbound template book allowing artists to create their own binding design around the text and add other visual touches. This copy is bound by one of the three judges for the competition, Monique Lallier. The binding is a French technic binding of laced-in boards; black goat skin leather, silver leather for edge to edge doublures and fly leaves; title in red on the front cover; silk embroidered end bands; both covers were laster cut and kept together with beads, red and blue spelling the initials of William Blake. The a's and the o's in the text have been colored in red and blue, as binders were asked to interact with the text.
"The text begins high up on the page and progressively works its way one line lower down the page with each spread, until ending just at the bottom. The text is handset in Bauer Bodoni Italic with Donatello Eclaire titling, and printed on Zerkall Nideggen paper"--Artist's statement from Bookbinding Academy website, viewed September 8, 2020.
"One hundred thirty copies printed by Russell Maret, of which one hundred were provided to Open Set 2020"--Colophon.
Issued in clamshell box.
