Originally written in 1604 as: "An answer to such motives as were offered by certain military men to Prince Henry to incite him to affect arms more than peace". Frontispiece portrait of Sir Walter Raleigh may not be part of the original publication. "The French charity: written in French by an English gentleman, upon occasion of Prince Harcourt's coming into England; and translated into English by F.S.J.E.", has separated title page dated 1655 and separate pagination; the register is continuous. "An English gentleman" = Robert Cotton. French title not traced. Reproduction of the original in the Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery.
