Tobacco statistics : a statement, shewing that, under the sanction of the present enormous duty, a sum of money raised on the labouring classes, by government and smuggling, sufficient to pay the whole expense of the effective service of the Navy, Army, Customs, Excise, and the pension list, and that a reduction of the duty to 1s. per lb. would be equivalent to a reduction of £5,850,000 taxation to the people : compiled from Parliamentary evidence, the reports of the Commissioners of Revenue and Excise Enquiry, Sir Henry Parnell on financial reform, and other authentic documents.
