The sacred doctrine of diuinitie : gathered out of the word of God, and comprehended in two volumes whereof this first volume, containeth a description of all that holy doctrine according to the rules of art: with a treatise concerning the olde Testament, or the promise. The second is to containe a larger explication of the former doctrines: with a discouerie of the most principall heresies and errours contrary thereunto.

Sometimes erroneously attributed to Dudley Fenner, who the preface of the first edition (STC 10872.5), dated 1 Jan. 1589, mentions as having died three years previously.
Another edition of the Doctrine only of STC 10872.5 revised and enlarged.
The second volume spoken of in the title is STC 7148--STC.
Most copies are anonymous; British Library copy retains [par.]2, conjugate with with [par.]3, with dedication by Finch to Thomas [Egerton] Lord Ellsmere. Headpiece on [par.]3r varies; center has vase or has fleur-de-lis; both at Princeton. One Bodleian Library copy has erroneously inserted the Latin verse dedication by J. Gordon belonging to STC 12056 and has an extra leaf of errata at end--STC.
A variant has Fœlix Kyngstone in the imprint--STC.
Numerous errors in pagination; actual pagination derived from signature collation.
