| Item Description: | "Manuscript of military engineering, with hundreds of drawings of fortifications, bridges, barriers, military barges and nautical instruments, draughting tools, and much more, all of exceptional quality and exactitude, complete with a bibliography of ancient and modern military science. There are sections on permanent fortifications, Italian, French, and "Niederlandish" (i.e. German) fortifications, the history of military architecture and engineering, referencing the designs by Albrecht Durer (1471-1528), Daniel Specklin (1536-1589), Blaise Francois de Pagan (1604-1665), Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban (1633-1707), and Marc-Rene Montalembert (1714-1800). With more than 400 militray engineering drawings (some multi-coloured), and one hand-colored lithographic plate tipped in, plus about 40 folding military engineering drawings neatly affixed to the outer margins.
