Item Description:	Dedication signed: Horace Walpole. Published 5 Dec. 1758, but dated 1759. Cf. Hazen. First edition was published at the Strawberry Hill Press in April 1758. Frontispiece in volume 1 is an engraving by Grignion depicting the presentation of Earl Rivers and Caxton, his printer, to Edward IV; frontispiece in volume 2 is a copy of the original music for 'The voluntary before the march.'. Some copies with misprint in running title on page 74 of volume 1; other copies corrected at press. Includes 'Supplement' on pages 154-250 of volume 2. Pagination: Volume 1: [8], viii, 247, [5] pages, [1] leaf of plates; Volume 2: [2], 250, [6] pages, [1] leaf of plates. The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy was acquired as part of the Lois Goddard Morrison Collection of Eighteenth Century Literature. The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy has armorial bookplate with "Bickham" in minute letters, an inscription of "F. Willes, 1764", and bookplates of Lois Goddard Morrison.
