Item Description:First publication of a section of Ford's manuscript entitled: The mission era of California, that deals with the individual missions and his final chapter on the state of the mission Indians, including some of his drawings and etchings.
"This first edition of Henry Chapman Ford : an artist records the California Missions was designed and printed in an edition of 450 copies by Patrick Reagh, printers. The typeface is Monotype Ehrhardt 453 and the paper is Mohawk Superfine. The black and white illustrations were printed by Cunningham Press. The color illustrations were printed by Color Service, Incorporated. The book was bound by Bela and Marianna Blau using a patterned cloth typical of the wallpapers and decorations found in the California missions. November, 1989"--Colophon.
