Only the first item is dated 1857 (Febrero 20); the rest, as indicated on the spine, date from 1869 to 1873. Some are transmissions of laws passed by the federal government of Mexico under Presidents Benito Juárez and Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada. The documents are of varying sizes; some are folded. Leaves were numbered by hand in pencil.

The Cushing Library/Colonial Mexican Imprint copy has ephemera: 5 copies of a poster. The rectos contain a portrait of Charles Nicolle, winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1928, with his inscription: "à Monsieur le docteur A. Co[rv?]illos homage amical, Chicolle". The versos of these posters contain a handwriten contents and description of the the 2nd-38th (numbered 1-17) documents in the book pertaining to Francisco A. Vélez and Benito Juárez, 1869-1870.
