| Item Description: | A satirical poem on the Welsh people written in Latin written at Sacheverell's instigation. Translated with various titles: The mouse-trap, Taffy's triumph, etc. Variant imprint (otherwise same setting?) of the first authorized edition (Foxon H285) which was also reissued with Cobb's translation in 1712 & 1720. Dedication to "Roberto Lloyd ..." (A2r-A4v) subscribed "Magd. Coll. Oxon. 1709. E. Holdsworth." Foxon (H285) suggests some copies may have been issued without engraved frontispiece. Cut of peacock on title page; head- and tailpieces (pages [1], 16). The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy was acquired as part of the Lois Goddard Morrison Collection of Eighteenth Century Literature. |
