Description
Summary:A brief introduction, a comprehensive discussion of the different design factors and design criteria and an example design are presented fro prestressed concrete pavement. A literature review was conducted to provide the best available data on design factor; thus, to give previous experience and most feasible pavement dimensions. The technical literature failed to provide sufficient data from which an acceptable design procedure could be established. However, a structural design method within the elastic range is presented. With the aid of this methoda design of a post-tensioned prestressed concrete pavement is illustrated. It was found that the load carrying capacity of a prestressed concrete pavement is greater than conventional concrete pavement, that the slab length will greatly depend on the friction between slab and subgrade, and that the load carrying ability will not increase in proportion with further increase in prestress.
