Progressive color proof printings (some in multiple versions) of the illustrations for "The first part of the life and achievements of the renowned Don Quixote de la Mancha" by Miquel de Cervantes Saavedra, translated by Peter Motteux, illustrated with wood engravings by Hans Alexander Mueller. Published : New York : Random House, 1941.
Page numbers written in pencil on paper wrappers of each image. Some wrappers and proofs often reusing prints, text from other printings or handwritten text.
[accompanying image] Also includes image (2 copies) used on page 73 of 1941 edition, but printed with text on a page "7" and "8" (attached to added title page) of another unidentified edition of Don Quixote.
The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy was acquired as a lot of prints by Hans Alexander Müller which contained the images cataloged separately as [Illustrations for Don Quixote, 1941 Random House edition], Ex libris Book of the Month Club, and Ex libris Scherman, II Fassung.
