| Item Description: | Title from paper wrapper, in pencil. Proof printings of two versions of a similar image (multiple copies -19 of one, 2 the other), a small pile of books with a vase of flowers on top. [print 1 (2 copies)]Artist's intial "M" in corner of 1 version and 'Ex Libris' banner across top of image - [print 2 (19 copies)] image with no words or signatures. Possibly designed for Harry Scherman (1887-1969) the co-founder of the Book of the Month Club. The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy contains the original wrapper. The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy was acquired as a lot of prints by Hans Alexander Müller which contained the images cataloged separately as [Illustrations for Don Quixote, 1941 Random House edition], Ex libris Book of the Month Club, and Ex libris Scherman, II Fassung. |
