| Item Description: | First number of this short-lived periodical, containing first printings of works by Robert Graves ("Ghost-raddled", "A frosty night"), Siegfried Sassoon, Max Beerbohm, and others. Cover title. Foreward attributed to Robert Graves. Cf Higginson C60. Bound in cream wrappers printed in red and black. The Cushing Library/Ragan Military copy was acquired as a set of four issues of The Owl, former ownership attributed to Siegfried Sassoon. The set is housed together in a special clamshell box with a spine label "The Owl - Siegfried Sasson's Copies." The four piece set is composed of two copies of the first issue of The Owl, a copy of the second issue of The Owl with a stamp on the title page indicating it "For Review", and a copy of the third issue, The Winter Owl which is inscribed "Mother, with love from Sig. Xmas 1923." |
