| Abstract: | A limited experimental investigation has been conducted of the effects on the performance of an arc-driven shock tube of using helium-argon and helium-nitrogen mixtures as the driver gas. The results indicate that the addition of a contaminant gas to the driver gas causes no appreciable change in the arc-driver efficiency and that higher test times might be attained by using a helium-heavier species driver gas mixture. Also, the addition of a heavy gas to the driver gas significantly decreases incident shock wave attenuation. |
