Description
Abstract:The objective of this paper is to discuss an interpolation scheme that possesses the following important properties: (1) The interpolant depends linearly and only locally on the data, (2) arbitrary interpolation problems, including Birkhoff interpolation, can be handled, (3) any desired approximation order can be achieved, (4) the interpolation procedure can be made adaptive, and (5) the interpolation formula can be adopted for real-time applications. Due to its flexibility and simplicity, this interpolation method is expected to have many applications in addition to the standard ones such as interpolation of discrete data. One such application that will be discussed in this paper is solution of initial value and boundary value problems.
