In 1726 Nathaniel St. André was involved in the case of Mary Toft, who was reported to have given birth to seventeen rabbits, and the pamphlet was apparently printed with this in mind; it also contains St. André's allegations that in 1725 he was poisoned by persons calling on him for help.
