Description
Summary:Number 18 consists of two groups of contributions. The main issue, which gives its title to this issue, contains twelve texts devoted to maritime labor and workers from the eighteenth century to the end of the twentieth. It is a scientific field at the confluence between two pioneering streams of research in human sciences: the history of work and maritime history. Social problems are also discussed in depth both in terms of standard of living and social demands. Finally, the image of the seafarer and its evolution in the era of mechanization and industrialization is given a large place. The second file consists of ongoing research with eight contributions from PhD students in history who provide updates on the status of their work. The two articles of varia are equally new since one deals with "artistic representations of the shores as tools of knowledge of the evolution of the coastline ", taking Breton examples, and that the other shows, from the survey of boats classified as historical monuments, the astonishing possibilities of virtual archives online. Finally, this issue contains numerous reviews of books--Page 4, cover.
