Item Description:	Detached from: Le journal illustré, [July,1865?], page 236. A crowd of freedmen in wagons peddling the proclamation of President Lincoln. Although Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, it was not until 1865 following the end of the American Civil War that Congress passed the Thirteenth Amendment and the abolition of slavery was assured nationwide.
