One of thirty-six Civil War battles scenes produced as chromolithographs between 1884 and 1894 by the Chicago lithographic firm of Kurz & Allison. The firm was sympathetic to the role African-American troops played in the War and this print is a rare example of a Civil War battle scene in which the participants are clearly depicted as African-Americans. Although their Civil War prints enjoyed popular success, the images often contain numerous historical inaccuracies.
