| Abstract: | Many authors have recommended that residuals charts be used for controlling a process that generates autocorrelated data. We show, however, that with a first-order autoregressive process a residuals chart will have relatively poor properties unless the autoregressive parameter is negative. Other methods should therefore be considered. |
