| Item Description: | Translation of: Coryats crudities: hastily gobled up in five moneths travells in France, Savoy, Italy, Rhetia commonly called the Grisons country, Helvetia aliàs Switzerland, some parts of high Germany, and the Netherlands... First published in London, printed by W. Stansby, 1611. "The publishing house Reka vremen published a book: W. Shakespeare. Dnevnik evropeĭskogo pyteshestvi︠a︡ [Diary of a European traveler] (Volume 1). This is a translation of a book published in London in 1611 and called Coryats crudities, which was written by Thomas Coryat. We look at the cover and see that its author is Shakespeare. But is it? In our country, attention to the Coryats crudities was drawn by I. Gililov. He put forward a hypothesis: the author of the work is Roger Manners, the fifth Earl of Ratland, the main applicant for the title 'true Shakespeare.' The editors of the present publication basically share Gililov's views and, therefore, they consider the book of Coryat to be the last lifetime publication of Shakespeare (Rattland died in 1612). Still, William Shakespeare's authorship, strictly speaking, remains a hypothesis. Therefore, the appearance of his name on the title (and the cover), in my opinion, is not entirely legitimate (we can assume that this was done by the publisher caring about the commercial success of the book)"--Lev Verkhovskiĭ blog.
