Description
Summary:Women in family businesses are often depicted as invisible and hidden behind the curtains. As a result, daughters are less frequently proposed as successors when the older generation steps back than their male siblings are. However, gender equality is now important in many countries, and women have gained a stronger foothold in the business world. Those advances have brought about changes to the role of women in family businesses. Women cannot assume equality by right; to claim their position in the business they must seize the initiative and adopt certain behaviors. In the two real but anonymized cases examined below, companies face a situation in which they need to decide whether and on what terms to invite the daughters to join the family business.
